Rice Village Animal Hospital in Houston, TX is actively seeking a team-oriented full-time Veterinary Technician to provide exceptional animal care and phenomenal service to our clients.

At Rice Village Animal Hospital, we understand that pets are valued members of our client's families. We are a growing veterinary hospital located in the heart of the village and striving to make a difference in the lives of our clients and communities.

Our company culture is founded on teamwork and creating an environment where our employees can learn and grow as people and professionals. We know we're doing important work, and making a difference in the lives of our clients and patients is our biggest motivation.

Our employees' personal lives are also important to us, and we encourage them to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Our tight-knit team shows their dedication to the company each day, and we like to return the favor to them.

The Veterinary Technician or Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) is an integral member of the veterinary healthcare team. Veterinary technicians must have a broad knowledge of animal science, medicine, and husbandry, including a basic knowledge of pharmacology and sufficient mathematical skills to ensure the administration of accurate drug and fluid doses.

They must be able to successfully restrain animals, complete clinical laboratory tests, use multiple radiology techniques, administer drugs, monitor animals under anesthesia, assist in surgery, and perform dental procedures. Technicians must also deliver compassionate nursing care. The technician is educated and trained to support the veterinarian by assisting with surgery, laboratory procedures, radiography, anesthesiology, prescribed treatment, nursing, and client education. While an RVT can assist in performing a wide variety of tasks, they cannot diagnose, prescribe, or perform surgery.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Checking patients into rooms
  • Taking patients' histories and entering current medications, and getting vital signs (TPR) independently

This is all done with a friendly disposition because you care about the work you are doing. You show respect and empathy towards both our clients and our animal patients when performing medical tasks.

Some of the tasks you are sometimes asked to assist with are:

  • Placing catheters
  • Drawing blood samples
  • Giving injections such as vaccinations or medications through different methods, such as by I.V., subcutaneously (SQ), or intramuscularly (IM)
  • When needed, you also give vital help with surgeries and reading lab samples

The job can sometimes be hectic and difficult, but you are dedicated to your work and take everything in stride. You know what needs to be done without always being asked and learn from your mistakes. You love being part of our cohesive animal hospital team and take great pride in being the best veterinary technician that you can be!
